THE MALE GAZE

Focusing on the idea of The Male Gaze from John Berger's Ways of Seeing, I examined my personal relationship as a female in response to it. As a female, we have no choice but to live under the Male Gaze. As much as we would like to shed ourselves of this gaze and be rid of it, to freely move through the world, it is not possible. As such, we accept it, and move on from there. It becomes a mere irritant that we live with.

A GIF depicting how the male gaze is personally seen. It is a fly, bothering us. We are unfazed by it but nonetheless attempt to chase it away. In the event that we do manage to stop the gaze, we react to it in disgust, dealing with it with as little thought as you would do when you swat a bug on your arm.
